Description
Program/Fellowship Description
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. The International Visitor Leadership Program Fellow will provide logistical support to facilitate the program, create and assemble welcome materials, and work on a variety of long-term and independent projects. In addition to supporting the programmatic work of the IVLP team, the Fellow will also attend and assist in the implementation of program meetings allowing for the observation of exchange, engagement, and networking between international visitors and resources.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Use database to prepare visitor biographic information;
Reviewing financial documents such as reimbursement forms and payment reconciliations;
Prepare and assemble visitor welcome folders; attend and ensure visitor meetings run smoothly
Draft social media posts for the department's twitter page
Design a semester long research project on a topic of your choosing and present research topic to the entire department at the end of the fellowship
Complete all organizational administrative responsibilities in a timely manner
Participate in Fellowship cohort activities
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have/be:
An undergraduate student in international studies or a related field, or combined equivalent experience
A highly motivated self-starter with superb communication and organizational skills, and high attention to detail
A team player with the ability to follow through on long-term projects and to work independently
Experienced with Microsoft Office
Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact suitable for working with individuals from around the world
Applicants are required to:
Commit 16-29 hours per week to the fellowship, with Monday & Friday being preferred days to be in office.
Be fluent in verbal and written English
Non-US Citizens are encouraged to apply but must have US work authorization
Have a residence in the DC, MD, or VA area
