Job description

Summary

The FBI is currently looking for highly skilled and experienced pilots to operate multi-engine transport aircraft while conducting law enforcement operations worldwide.The Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) is seeking fixed-wing aviation professionals who will work alongside Special Agent pilots. Our expert pilots operate long-range aircraft for the Special Flight Operations Unit. By applying pilot skills, and teamwork you will contribute to the success of the FBI's Aviation Program.

Duties

  • The domestic and international operation of complex multi-engine turbojet and turboprop aircraft CONUS and OCONUS.These flights transport FBI and other government agency executive management, supervisory and technical personnel, and hazardous cargo (ie, biological, chemical, explosive and nuclear) to and from a wide variety of CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Act as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and/or Second-in-Command (SIC) of two complex multi-engine aircraft: The Gulfstream G550 and the De Havilland Dash8 Q400.Aircraft assignments may change due to procurement or divestment and are at the discretion of the SFOU Chief pilot.
  • Perform all industry standard PIC/SIC duties for a flight from planning, execution, to post flight.Conduct/participate in After Action Reviews.
  • As necessary, ensure appropriate diplomatic clearances, country clearances, over flight permits and landing clearances are secured for entire flight plan and at all foreign destinations, and coordinate with US Embassy, Defense Attach Office and Customs Officials located in foreign countries.
  • Provide mentorship and training to other SFOU PIC/SICs as appropriate.
  • Perform Program Management duties within SFOU at the discretion of the SFOU Chief pilot. These programs include, but are not limited to, Safety, Training, Operations, Modernization, and Contract Officer Representative (COR) positions.


Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a FAA Physical.
  • Must be able to pass a FAA Class I Medical Physical (must maintain while in the position).
  • Must possess Pilot Certificate.
  • Must attach completed FAA form FAA Form 8710, sections 1 and 3 (pilot experience).
  • Must attach completed FAA form FAA 8060-13, Parts I and II based on form data.
  • Must attach completed FAA Form 8060-10, Part II based on form data.


Physical Demands:

  • This position requires frequent and recurring travel and long flight hour missions. Fatigue and stress factors are appropriate for this aviation working environment.


Work Environment:

  • Flights require operations in confined spaces and exposure to high noise levels. Other duties are performed in a standard office environment located in Northern Virginia. Regularly scheduled on-call shifts will be required.


Qualifications

GS-14: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience and expert level of knowledge in operating high performance heavy turbojet and turboprop aircraft, along with a comprehensive knowledge of complex aircraft systems.
  • Experience and knowledge of procedures used in the preparation of After Action Reports, flight reports, entering data in flight logs and arranging maintenance, servicing and catering.
  • Experience in oral and written communication to effectively and persuasively interact with others.
  • Experience composing summaries and reports.
  • Experience documenting needs and requirements; present recommendations to and/or brief management relative to the area(s) of assignment.
  • Experience serving as a liaison and provide training on aircraft flight operations.


Desired Skills

Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants.

Desired Skills are:

  • To have logged 2000 hours total time in Airplanes, 1000 hours Multi-Engine Turbine Airplane, 500 hours Jet, and 300 hours in a 10-to-20 passenger jet.
  • Possess an Unrestricted ATP certificate and a current FAA Class I Medical
  • Have experience in Hazmat will-carry operations
  • Be willing to travel abroad & follow DOS, CDC, and FBI travel medical policy
  • Will grant the FBI access to applicant's FAA Pilot Records Database.
  • Will provide verification of all requirements and qualifications listed in this job description upon request.
  • Maintain a residence within a 1.5 hour drive time.
  • Possess a Gulfstream GV Type Rating, with 300 hours logged within the last two years.
  • Have experience working in an organization of 5-15 pilots.
  • Have military or government VIP transport experience.
  • Have US Embassy / State Department and foreign government aviation operations or coordination.
  • Multi-Engine Instructor (FAA or US Military) with over 200 hours dual-provided in Multi-Engine Turbine
  • Have flight experience in South America, Europe, Africa, and/or the Pacific.
  • Have program management in aviation operations (Operations/Scheduling/Safety/Training/IT/etc).
