Position Summary:

The Washington Commanders Community Relations Department is seeking a qualified individual to join the team as a full-time Director of Youth Football Programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and will be responsible for managing the team's youth and high school football platforms, events, and programs. This individual will serve as a liaison between all youth and high school football programs in the Washington Commanders market, the NFL, and related team partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Liaison: Act as the primary liaison with the youth and high school football community, fostering strong relationships with schools, athletic associations, local conferences, and leagues.
  • Internal Liaison: Collaborate closely with the Vice President of Community Relations and other internal leadership to develop and implement the youth and high school football strategy for the Washington Commanders.
  • Grant Leveraging: Secure and distribute various grants for local football programs and projects (e.g., NFL Foundation, NIKE, Riddell), ensuring the maximization of available resources.
  • Program Execution: Oversee the development and execution of youth football community outreach programs.
  • Fan Development: Expand and develop youth football programming aimed at engaging young fans and fostering a strong fan base (e.g., Washington Commanders Youth Football Camps, Girls Flag Football grassroots activations, and working toward sanctioning as a sport).


Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Create strategic plans, progress updates, milestones, and recaps for internal leadership.
  • Oversee the development and execution of all youth and high school football community outreach programs, including but not limited to:
  • Player Clinics, Gatorade Junior Training Camps, NFL Flag events, Special Olympics Flag Football, Play Football Gameday Activations, youth football equipment donation requests
  • High School Coaches Clinic, High School Football Showcase, High School Coach of the Week, Friday Night Lights, InSideOut Initiative, Positive Coaching Alliance
  • Washington Commanders Camps and Clinics, Girls Flag Football grassroots and pilot programming
  • Actively develop and maintain relationships within the youth football community and stay informed on current affairs within the Washington Commanders market.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for all youth football programs.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of youth and high school football contacts.
  • Ensure fulfillment of youth football-based programs, including sponsor elements.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Sports Management, Business, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in event planning or marketing, specifically related to youth and high school sports.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to react quickly under high-pressure situations.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to conceptualize, execute, and see projects through to completion.
  • Attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to operate independently.
  • Team player with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent cross-functional working and communication skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of league and external grants related to youth and flag football is a plus.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and events as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and travel as necessary.
  • Ability to perform duties representing the Washington Commanders' core values (Fight, Impact, Growth, Honor, Trust).
  • Knowledge of sports, specifically the NFL, is a plus.
