Construction Accountant

Job description

Project Accounting:

Manage project accounting activities, including tracking project costs, revenues, and expenses. Prepare and review project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.Cost Control:

Monitor project costs and expenditures to identify variances and discrepancies. Work closely with project managers and contractors to control costs, mitigate risks, and maximize profitability.Billing and Invoicing:

Prepare and review project invoices, progress billings, and change orders in accordance with contract terms and billing schedules. Coordinate billing activities with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.Cash Flow Management:

Monitor cash flow projections and cash balances for construction projects. Coordinate with treasury and finance teams to ensure adequate funding for project expenses and working capital needs.Financial Reporting:

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for construction projects. Analyze financial data, review job cost reports, and provide variance analysis to management to support decision-making processes.Contract Compliance:

Ensure compliance with contract terms, regulations, and accounting standards for construction projects. Review contracts, change orders, and other project documentation to identify potential risks and liabilities.Audit Support:

Assist in the coordination of internal and external audits for construction projects. Provide documentation, explanations, and support to auditors during audit engagements to ensure compliance and accuracy of financial records.Process Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancement in construction accounting processes. Implement best practices, standardize procedures, and leverage technology to streamline workflows and reduce manual efforts.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.3+ years of experience in construction accounting or related roles.Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, revenue recognition, and WIP accounting.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint) and Microsoft Excel.Knowledge of construction contracts, change orders, and billing processes.Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.CPA certification or progress towards certification is a plus.
