Employee will plan and lead engineering tasks and projects in the water/wastewater field through working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards and processes; manage multiple design projects, manage preparation and updating of project schedules; develop, analyze and document critical design elements; coordinate the efforts of a design team to determine requirements and incorporate feedback. The selected candidate will become part of an established team of engineers working on exciting sewershed study and rehabilitation, new sewer design, water distribution, water/wastewater treatment, and pump station projects in the Mid-Atlantic. Employee is expected to provide quality engineering evaluation and design services efficiently to support the project team s objective and provide customer satisfaction on all projects.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesDesign responsibilities and project managementWork closely with a design team to develop construction plans and specifications for various design projectsPerform design computationsDesign projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelinesDevelop construction cost estimatesDeveloping scopes of work, developing conceptual designs and preliminary engineering studies, conceiving and implementing field investigation programs, sub-contractor management, as well as coordination of design disciplines in final design projectsConstruction phase engineering servicesFlexibility to support time-critical report development and production to meet demanding schedulesCoordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and firm staffSome business development activities such as proposal writing and project interviewsNonessential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerform other related duties as assignedRequired SkillsCandidates must have the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-production office environment, build successful team relationships and maintain positive coworker interactionsCandidates must demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic designs, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, water and water/wastewater treatment process design, engineering economics, preparation of specifications and engineering report writingCandidates must demonstrate organized practices, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have flexibility to support time-critical report development and production in order to meet demanding schedulesCandidates should have a firm grasp of general heavy construction principles; environmental facilities operations-related experience is considered a plusApplicant should demonstrate strong team-building skillsCandidate should be able to present technical writing product to internal teamStrong computer skills are required: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, ArcGIS, and MS Project are a plusRequired Experience5-10 Years ExperienceA bachelor s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited universityA working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction permitting regulationsQualifications PreferredPossess a Professional Engineering License in the state of Maryland or have the ability to acquire a license through reciprocity within six months of employmentA passing grade on the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam is preferredExperience working with local clientsWorking ConditionsWork is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
