Job description

**Remote opportunity in the following locations: VA, MD, WV, NC, SC, GA, FL, TN, AR, KY, TX**

The Patient Privacy Coordinator functions and performs in a multifaceted role within the organization that monitors VCUHS/VCU compliance with the rules and regulations surrounding the use, storage and transmission of Patient Health Information. The Patient Privacy/Security Coordinator accomplishes this through monitoring and auditing; policy creation; staff educational efforts; and implementing technological reviews and safeguards.

The Patient Privacy/Security Coordinator provides guidance, education and serves as a resource to VCUHS/VCU workforce, which also includes researchers, volunteers, and students seeking information regarding patient privacy, information security and HIPAA compliance.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), or

Certified in Healthcare Privacy & Security (CHPS), or

Obtain certification within one year of employment into position

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current CHPC or CHPS, or

Obtain certification within one year of employment in position

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of five (5) years of HIPAA Privacy and Security healthcare experience
Previous experience in an information technology, audit, policy and/or business related position

Experience PREFERRED:
Three (3) years of experience in a compliance related environment or academic healthcare center to include HIPAA Privacy and Security work experience

Education/training REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business, Healthcare Administration or related field

Education/training PREFERRED:
Master's Degree in Information Technology, Business, Healthcare Administration or related field

Independent action(s) required:
Ability to research, comprehend and analyze government regulations with corresponding development of plans for resolution and implementation recommendations to others.
Ability to prioritize and shift tasks as needed based on emergent criteria.
Ability to anticipate the needs of the Compliance Leadership Team.
Ability to interact with employees at all levels within the organization.
Ability to work from an annual work plan and manage resources to complete the work plan in a timely manner.
