Job description

Registered Behavioral Technician/Dedicated Aide Position Description

A Registered Behavioral Technician supports children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other behavioral challenges in the general education primary (age 3-6) and/or elementary (6-9) classroom. The registered behavior tech will provide out-of-the-classroom therapy services for students at all levels per the IEP.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Curriculum, Collaboration, and Classroom Management
  • Assist lead teachers in supporting students with disabilities within the general education setting.
  • Assist students and classroom teachers with behavior (e.g., implementing behavior plans).
  • Assess student progress regularly and regularly collect data to track students' progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers, in-classroom behavior technicians, related service providers, the Campus Special Education Manager, the Principal, and parents to plan for student needs.
  • Develop and implement the discrete trial instruction, social skills instruction, and behavior plan implementation in collaboration with the Special Education team under the supervision of the BCBA for children with IEPs.
  • Contribute to social/emotional progress reports and IEP development under the supervision of the BCBA.
  • Engage parents and families in their student's learning and act as an ambassador for the school in the community.
  • Contribute productively to the school as a whole.
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours.
  • Assist the student with participation in lessons, daily activities, and assessments.
  • Support the student with special needs throughout the school day
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Parent Education, Meetings, and Conferences
  • Promote family involvement through participating in conferences as requested.
  • Assisting in the development of and participates in school functions, including but not limited to open houses, orientation meetings, parent education, and school-wide activities.
  • Preparing documents and reports necessary to facilitate parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, or other meetings requested by parents or school administration.
  • Confer with the Student Support Coordinator, the Principal, and the Assistant Principal over disciplinary and behavioral issues with students.
  • Record-Keeping and Data Assessment
  • Maintaining student records, reports, evaluations, inventories, and tests.
  • Completing all progress monitoring and benchmark assessments on time as scheduled by administration.
  • Participating in all assessment-related trainings.
  • Preparing student data and assessment reports and notes as required by administration.

A Successful RBT will Possess the Following:
  • Be a credentialed Registered Behavior Technician or have successfully completed the 40 hour RBT training course and competency exam and be able to pass the RBT exam within 60 days
  • Have 1 year experience implementing ABA based interventions in the home or school setting
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of behavioral principles and instructional strategies for students with autism and developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrate a willingness to integrate data and assessment with traditional Montessori curriculum in order to close the achievement gap for our students
  • Have flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; ability and good judgment to take initiative to modify activities
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have the ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents and community
  • Demonstrate a passion for public schools
