Description:
This is food service work performed at secondary level schools. This position is at a working and supervisor level and performed under the supervision of an assigned area field representative. Performance is evaluated on an ongoing basis.
Essential Job Functions:

Oversee and/or prepare and service high-quality nutritious meals to students and adults at the home school and for transporting to other schools
Accurately complete all daily, weekly, and monthly reports
Order and receive food and supplies from designated vendors for prep and satellite schools
Record and deposit cash received into an assigned bank on a daily basis
Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment at the work facility at the completion of meal service
Ability to lift bulk weight of up to 55 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, climb
Ability to stand for long periods of time and endure extreme temperatures
Exercise direct and general supervision over assigned personnel
Perform daily, weekly and monthly paperwork on computer
Perform all duties as assigned and work as schedule.
Examples of Work:
Directs and assists with the preparation and service of hot and cold foods and beverages to be served to students and adults at the prep school and any assigned satellite school(s) per the directions in the Food Service Policies and Procedures Manual
Follows daily menu using the nutritional guidelines
Prepares production sheets daily
Performs supervisory duties to include the accurate accountability of lunches, breakfasts, a la carte sales and cash deposits
Accurately records lunch count from appropriate rosters and takes cash collected to the designated bank on a daily basis
Take accurate inventory, record and submit electronically
Submit food orders electronically from approved vendors
Read, understand, prepare and follow work schedules
Prepare and submit accurate payroll records
Assists with the cleaning and sanitizing of all kitchen equipment and work areas
Accurately locks all storerooms and equipment at the close of business each day
Participates in pilot programs
Participates in any catering functions, as needed
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
High School diploma or GED (must scan and upload to the online application). Foreign credentials must be evaluated as U.S. High School diploma or above.

Required Licenses and Certification:
Certificate of completion of the "ServSafe Course" within the probationary period of employment. Fee for the course is paid by the Food and Nutrition Service.
Must have dependable transportation throughout the working hours
Experience:
Six (6) months experience in food service operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of food preparation methods, kitchen cleaning methods, serving techniques, equipment usage, sanitation regulations for food preparation and storage procedures
Working knowledge of food and supply ordering
Working knowledge of safety and accident prevention techniques, especially as it pertains to food preparation, kitchen, and dining facilities
Working knowledge of scheduling and time management as it pertains to food preparation, kitchen, and dining facilities.
Working knowledge of training techniques for new cafeteria employees and evaluation techniques for cafeteria employees
Ability to prepare hot and cold foods and beverages
Ability to follow and extend written recipes
Ability to complete daily production sheets
Ability to follow prescribed food preparation methods for school food service operations
Ability to prepare schedules
Ability to use and clean all kitchen equipment
Ability to serve students and adults efficiently, courteously, and rapidly
Ability to follow Food and Nutrition Service Policy and Procedures
Ability to lift bulk weight of up to 55 pounds

Other Desirable Qualifications:
One year paid experience at the level of a Food Service Satellite Manager. Two (2) years paid experience at the level of a Food Service Assistant II. Willingness to attend continuing education courses sponsored by the Food and Nutrition Service.
Required Continuing Education and Training
Must meet the annual education/training requirements for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for School Nutrition Employees
Salary:
This is a 10-month position, Salary Grade 7 on the Food and Nutrition Service Salary Scale in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Education of Howard County and the Howard County School Food Service Association ( service-memorandum.pdf) Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Howard County Public System. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is not exempt from overtime.
