ABOUT THIS ROLEYour primary functions in this privileged role will include:
Inspecting commercial and residential structures to ensure compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and other related codes.
Examining and evaluating construction documents for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
Educating property owners and tenants, building engineers, contractors, other government agencies, and citizens on regulations and the importance of building safety.
Maintaining inspection reports using a county-provided laptop for added job mobility.
Perform administrative work associated with inspection reports, construction documents, and data entry.
Performing mechanical and gas inspections of residential, commercial or industrial construction projects for compliance with applicable National, State and Local Code requirements
Performing project research and data entry for documenting inspection results
Assisting customers in navigating the different processes required for inspecting construction related projects
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSHigh school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of related (Mechanical Construction or codes administration) experience.
PREFERENCES
3 or more years of Mechanical Construction experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Working knowledge of the Virginia Mechanical Code
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents
Experience analyzing and evaluating as-built construction systems and assemblies
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to handle a fast paced inspection environment, and adapt to daily changes especially when conducting inspections.
HIRING SALARY$25.44 - $31.90 per hour ($49,3608 - $62,205 annually)
Schedule Requirements This position works Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (37.5 hours per week)

Completion of a successful pre-employment physical
Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment. This is in accordance with Part 1 of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, the Virginia Construction Code, 2015 Edition and effective 9/4/18; Section 105.2.2 Certification of Technical Assistants
