Job description

Exciting opportunity to join an outstanding team as a Pediatric Cardiology Exercise Physiologist! This position supports two locations, Willow Oaks in Fairfax Va. and our center in Rockville Md. Work alongside a team of physicians to perform exercise stress testing and cardiopulmonary exercise testing to support diagnosis and treatment plans for children, teens and young adults with congenital heart disease, and develop personalized exercise programs to optimize the health of this population.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform exercise stress testing with monitoring of the heart rate, blood pressure and ECG during exercise and in recovery
  • Perform pulmonary function testing prior to and following exercise
  • Perform cardiopulmonary exercise testing using a metabolic cart to assess maximal work (VO2), O2Pulse, and other metabolic parameters during exercise
  • Compare serial exercise test responses over time
  • Create personalized exercise prescriptions, including a program of aerobic exercise and strength training, for our patients based on cardiopulmonary exercise test results, providing patient education and support to patients and their families to achieve optimal outcomes for each patient
  • Demonstrate proper instruction and technique for performing appropriate exercise and strength training as needed to ensure patient safety and adherence to exercise prescription, as evidenced by direct observation
  • Monitor outpatient exercise prescriptions and provide patient encouragement and feedback during a 12-week exercise program
  • Assist in developing an in-person exercise program
  • Support and engage in clinical outcomes and quality improvement initiatives
  • Utilize standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery
  • Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and other team members to provide all of the above
  • Additional projects and duties as needed to support the exercise cardiology team

Schedule: M-F, 8 - 5. Will split time between 2 offices, Fairfax and Rockville.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology.
  • Relevant clinical experience in a hospital, clinical setting or clinical internship completed through education coursework
  • American College of Sports Medicine - Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM CEP) within 12 months
  • Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional or American Association of Cardiovascular and pulmonary Rehabilitation - Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (AACVPR CCRP) within 12 months
  • NASM - an equivalent advanced certification within 1 year of hire, to be determined by hiring unit
  • Basic Life Support- within first 6 months
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support- within first 6 months
