Required Qualifications for Position
High School Diploma or GED
Requires a current Columbia Gas Welder C wire (MIG) or stick (SMAW) card issued from a client welding instructor or the ability to obtain a Welder C (MIG) wire card within 90 days of the hire date.
If no current welder certification, the first good weld under the instruction of a company welding instructor must be made within the first 80 hours in the job.
Ability to work independently and alone with little supervision
Ability to work collaboratively with other welders and fabrication personnel
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
A practical welding test under the supervision of a company welding instructor is required as part of the candidate selection process.
This position is subject to DOT Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations.
This position is subject to regularly scheduled testing to maintain welder
The client Shop is primarily a wire welding (MIG) facility and progression of welding skills will be done in wire (MIG) and sub-arc (SAW).
Certified with a Columbia C card in MIG (GMAW)
Progression to sub-arc (SAW) proficiency
Progression toward certification with a Columbia A card in MIG (GMAW)
Welding certifications beyond those listed above, such as progression in stick (SMAW) welding, will be pursued only if business needs dictate
Responsibilities:
Fabricate in a shop environment, measurement and regulation settings and stations with related piping assemblies; equipment, products and tools, leak repair devices, domestic and commercial prefabricated meter sets and manifolds that are used in the natural gas industry per industry codes
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Creates code-compliant acceptable welds related to the construction of new facilities
Read & interpret fabrication prints and layout material to accurately fabricate job
Knowledgeable and proficient in the use and setup of jigs, fixtures and fabrication layout
Compiles, prepares and maintains company records and logs
Assists other welders to fit, tack and weld fabricated assemblies
Understand and adhere to company welding procedures
Insures quality and compliance to drawing and code of fabricated units
May act as welding inspector on client Shop projects or on projects outsourced to external fabrication shops
Pursue development of welding skills as appropriate within Fab Shop business needs and as time allows
Work with Leader of Fab Shop and design engineer(s) to improve fabrication process and increase fabrication shop efficiency
Plan, organize and complete fabrication work within guidelines provided by the fabrication shop leader and/or more senior fabrication shop welders
Perform work in machine shop as required to complete fabricated assemblies or subassemblies or to transition fittings or pipe to wall thicknesses compatible with weld jobs
Fabricate quality products according to design specifications
Proficiency in wire welding (MIG, GMAW) and sub-arc welding (SAW) with a progression eventually leading to a Bangs Welder A level
Code compliance for all testing procedures
Produce work product in a timely manner resulting in satisfied customers.
Contribute to documented positive financial results of the client Shop
Works with and supports other shop staff in a team environment to achieve collective production goals
