About the role

You'll be joining an underwriting team that that is responsible for our customers' life insurance purchase journey on an award-winning technology platform that automates and assists our underwriting assessment. You will classify mortality in a sound, objective and consistent manner by applying company guidelines and philosophies.

What you will do
  • Review individual life insurance applications and underwrite preferred through substandard risks within authorized limits of authority.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, agents, and agency staff to support swift handling of applications and deepen Symetra's relationship with our customers and partners.
  • Use your passion, skills, and interest to improve our platform and processes for our customers and employees.
  • Empowered to own the new business underwriting process from beginning to end including direct interaction with our customers.

Compensation

Salary Range: $82,900 - $138,100 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Your education, experience and skills
  • High school diploma required
  • College degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of life insurance underwriting experience.
  • Progress towards completion of AALU and AMLI.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good underwriting judgment with decisiveness while handling full underwriting caseload.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to communicate in clear and concise manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of underwriting principals, practices, departmental procedures, insurance medicine, financial underwriting, field operations, product offerings and life insurance contract law.
  • 5 years of life insurance underwriting experience.
  • AALU and/or AMLI designations.
  • Formal medical and/or pharmacological training, knowledge and/or experience.
