Job description

AB Able Bodied Seaman

Benefits: Full Medical/Dental begin after 60-days, and the first day of the month of employment.

Day to Day Duties:

AB Deck/Maintenance-

The AB/Deck crew members must be able to live and work for seven days a week in a remote environment. These duties are performed in all weather conditions.

This crew member will perform a host of physical labors in the loading and unloading of cargo and general maintenance on board the vessel. They are a day worker, so the hours (with OT) are prolonged and irregular.

They are responsible for releasing and securing of the hatch clamps on all cargo hold covers and may also be asked to operate the hatch crane.

They will perform routine maintenance on the conveyor system. This includes such duties as greasing/oiling the system, replacing bearings, and changing rollers, which entails moving and heavy lifting piece of equipment.

While the ship is underway, the AB/Deck crew member is responsible for general cleaning and maintenance. They will hose down decks, wash cargo holds/bulkheads, as well as painting and chipping.

AB/Wheelsman-

The AB/Wheelsman steers the ship by executing commands given by the Captain or Mate.

They stand lookout at the bow of the ship in designated waters during periods of poor visibility.

This crew member also will operate the hatch crane to take cover off the cargo holds and will operate the unloading boom during unloading of cargo.

Like the AB/Deck crew member, the AB/Wheelsman too is responsible for the general sanitation and maintenance of the vessel, including washing down cargo holds, bulkheads, and tunnels inside the ship.
