Job description

Job Title: Mainframe Performance Engineer

Location: Reston, VA (primarily remote with onsite visit once or twice in a month)

Duration: 12 Months contract to Hire

Our client is looking for a Mainframe focused Performance Engineer to assist them with application performance analysis within their SYSPLEX environment. We are seeking candidates with hands-on experience within a MQ, CICS, DB2, IBM z/OS and AIX environment.

Job Description:

  • The selected candidate will define, design and develop system requirements.
  • Performs trade-off analysis of performance, life-cycle cost, risk, producibility, and other system or program requirements.
  • Assesses architecture and current hardware limitations, defines and designs system specifications, and evaluates input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system.
  • Defines system support requirements to include monitoring, capacity, staffing and patching/updating.
  • Analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies.
  • Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design.

Experience:

8 years of proven success overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems and applications.

Candidate should be experienced in Performance Engineering.

  • Lead the performance engineering of steady state mainframe environment as well as new and net new development initiatives and infrastructure changes.
  • Lead the end-to-end performance assessment and forensic analysis of customer facing applications interfacing with mainframe backend database(DB2) and other mainframe services.
  • Work with our mainframe service manager (Ensono) to assess and forecast Mainframe impact based on new business and technology changes.
  • Support environment integration and interoperability with other client systems.
  • Assess impact and develop/support remediation of performance issues on the mainframe.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science (Additional 4 years of relevant experience is required in lieu of a Bachelor's degree)
