English for Heritage Language Speakers (EHLS) is an intensive English and professional skills program that prepares advanced English speakers from a variety of fields for careers with the federal government. This is a scholarship for training in advanced English and career skills.

The program runs January through August; it includes six months of full-time study at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies (Washington, DC) and two months of part-time online study. All tuition is covered, and scholars receive a monthly living stipend.

After completing the program, graduates must work for the federal government in a position with national security responsibilities for at least one year. Please note that participants are responsible for their own federal job searches, as detailed here: www.ehlsprogram.org/is-ehls-for-me/scholarship-terms/ .

For 2025, full scholarships are available for U.S. citizens who have at least a bachelor's degree and are fluent speakers of Chinese Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Persian Farsi, Korean, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Turkish, and Hausa.

Learn more about the program on the EHLS website: www.ehlsprogram.org

EHLS is a partnership among the Deference Language and National Security Education Office, Georgetown University, and Center for Applied Linguistics.
