The Business Unit (POD) Manager leads a matrix team of operations technical specialists dedicated to a customer or industry vertical. A typical POD is a mix of engineers, case managers, and production control coordinators. The person in this role is a player/coach and knows when to step in and assist the team and when to step back and allow the team to self-manage.

The Business Unit (POD) Manager provides the day to day direction for the successful delivery of parts to the customer. The role is accountable for the full lifecycle of the manufacturing apart from the time of order placement through job completion, shipping, and customer satisfaction of delivery. The individual in this position will have responsibility for the design for manufacturability reviews, job/partner kickoffs, job project management, and risk detection, delivery and quality problem solving, shipping logistics, and post-delivery complaint resolution.

Team Leadership
  • Support the successful fulfillment of customer contractual requirements related to delivery and quality from supplier delivered products and services
  • Lead the day to day activities of a matrix team of technical specialists.
  • Coach and offer guidance and assistance to team members to further develop complex problem-solving
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews with the team for continuous improvement and adherence to Operations process and procedures inclusive of DFM reviews, case history logs, Zendesk queue management, and others.
  • Provide input on individual and team performance and career development guidance

Customer and Partner Relationship Management
  • Provide excellent customer service by forming relationships with customers and providing customers with frequent updates.
  • Foster long-standing and meaningful relationships with customers within the POD and work to build ever-stronger relationships with partners.
  • Know the supplier capabilities and coordinate with the Partner Management Team on supplier performance activities inclusive of root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Effectively communicate and interface with all key stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, program management, engineering, quality management, software team, and procurement.

Operational Excellence
  • Ensure POD Team Members perform all work in compliance with Xometry's quality and safety systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve company goals. Identify risks and opportunities and proactively drive improvement initiatives.
  • Work with Quality Assurance to improve supplier quality measurements, processes, and performance.
  • Problem solve and champion continuous improvement within the POD
  • Proactively forecast line of balance for order in WIP and adjust levers within business unit to level load accordingly

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field is preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing leadership position with complex problem solving
  • 7+ years of overall manufacturing experience, with an emphasis in Aerospace and Defense
  • CNC machining experience heavily desired
  • Working knowledge of aerospace quality standards such as QMS and AS9100 compliance
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor team members
  • A self-starter, who can work independently, and drive actions to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Able to multitask, meet deadlines, and to support all supplier quality field activities.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) + ability to manage up and to the side.
