Requirements of the Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Control Specialist/Staff Development

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with effective leadership & supervisory skills in a long-term care setting
  • Certification needed
  • Must have knowledge of state and federal regulations
  • Must successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check and physical / drug screen.

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Control Specialist/Staff Development

  • Report all reportable diseases to the county and state health departments
  • Assist with in-services on wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care, and incontinence for the nursing staff.
  • Participate in planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes for CNAs/GNAs and any other nursing personnel that provide instructions on how to do the job, and ensure a well-educated nursing service department.
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
  • Assist in training department personnel in identifying tasks that involve potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
