About The Position

Insights fuel our campaigns at Purple Strategies. The Research Lead combines art, science and storytelling to deliver research that drives our strategic recommendations, connects research to decisions we need to inform, and maximizes the strategic value of research on our teams and for clients. This is a full-time position in Purple Strategies' Research Expertise Group. The purpose of the Research EG is to ground Purple's bespoke solutions in compelling and actionable data and insights. Priorities of this EG include:
  • Providing actionable research driven by campaign objectives / client needs.
  • Ensuring consistent research foundation for insights development.
  • Ensuring data quality and methodological rigor.
  • Supporting strategy and decision making through research.


In this role you will:
  • Ask and answer the right questions to guide strategy and tactics; set the learning agenda throughout the client engagement and fill knowledge gaps.
  • Direct the collection and analysis of a wide variety of data for client engagements, including but not limited to quantitative and qualitative research, social listening, web traffic and user behavior, financial data, paid media performance metrics, and syndicated audience profiling.
  • Integrate data-driven insights into the entire client engagement.
  • Work with client teams to design and implement measurement strategies to include aligning key performance indicators (KPIs) and supporting metrics against campaign objectives and providing analysis on campaign performance.
  • Collaborate with digital transformation & innovation/growth functions to identify new, innovative methodologies that facilitate a holistic approach to delivering insights.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring in extracting key insights from data, KPIs, and supporting metrics and leading optimization strategies across tactics.
  • Provide mentoring and direction to research managers and analysts supporting client team, and serving as a strategic leader.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and Purple IP (may include one or more of the following: generating ideas for exploration; designing, analyzing, and reporting proprietary research; leading or contributing to cross-functional teams to create thought leadership).


Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and recommended 12+ years of experience in a senior/leadership role within a strategic communications agency or corporate reputation firm; on a political campaign or polling firm, or at a research, advertising, or marketing firm.
  • Proven leadership applying research insights to the development and execution of strategic plans and campaigns.
  • Track record of successful experience designing and conducting one or more of the following and who are able to frame a holistic insights POV from a wide variety of information sources.
    • Qualitative and quantitative research techniques to inform reputation, crisis or broader communication strategies.
    • Non-traditional data and research methods, such as social media monitoring, traditional media analysis, legislative tracking, client/first-party data, syndicated data, etc.
  • Political polling or campaign experience.
  • Experience presenting complex research findings and recommendations in a clear, compelling, visual manner to executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to integrate research insights into campaigns, strategy and recommendations.

Work Location

This is a full-time position based in either our Alexandria, VA headquarters or our Chicago, IL office. Purple Strategies offers a hybrid model and seeks employees who are comfortable working in the office for a portion of their workweek.
