Plant Layout Engineer

Job description

Our client is an industry leading manufacturing company with an immediate need for a Plant Layout Engineer/Industrial Engineer at its facility in Columbus, Ohio. The Plant Layout Engineer will focus on process design and continuous improvement for overall plant layout including layout of raw materials, machines, weld cells, assembly areas and final production staging.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work on teams that support the design, fabrication, construction and maintenance of a new world class facility
  • Continually evaluate tools and equipment options that will reduce cost in the operation
  • Justify and spend capital in order to take advantage of machinery and equipment that will improve manufacturing/assembly operations
  • Design fixturing/tooling using SolidWorks
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles such as visual controls, pull inventory systems, workplace organization, and continuous improvement
  • Provide manufacturing technical support for production operations, which includes tooling, fixturing and process troubleshooting utilizing existing systems and procedures
  • Monitor and correct safety/ergonomic issues
  • Develop and organize lean events in multiple manufacturing/assembly facilities
  • Work with associates on 5S programs and assist teams in implementation
  • Assist with EH&S
  • Assist other functional areas as directed
  • Assist in the PDP (Product Development Process) process. Evaluate new projects for tooling and equipment needs
  • Assist with plant layouts
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICTIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting
  • 2+ years experience with design engineering; Strong preference for Solidworks experience and tooling/fixture design experience
  • Aptitude for tracking changes in data and analyzing the data to make recommendations to Management
  • Excels at documenting their process and help make improvements to their job through system and process improvements
  • Lean/Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement training and experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with root cause, 5S, 5Y, Kaizen, etc.
  • Ability to take on projects outside their scope of work
  • Self-directed to meet the outlined KPIs for the job
  • Detail oriented
  • Superior communication skills (both written and oral)
