Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; on call for emergencies.

Job Summary

The Network Systems Administrator is required to provide technical administration to all local and wide area network hardware and software. Employee monitors and administers network infrastructure to ensure network availability to all system users and performs the necessary maintenance to support network availability. The employee will assist with overall network health and security using best practices and policies set forth by the department. The Network Systems Administrator is a professional position reporting to the Manager of Information Technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains network infrastructure by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Maintains wireless network performance and infrastructure by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Maintains end user hardware and software by performing monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting issues problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Maintains server hardware and software by performing monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting issues problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Creates, maintains and develops databases and applications for use by city staff and public.
  • Maintains, develops and troubleshoots City enterprise software applications.
  • Secures network by implementing and using network security best practices set forth by the department.
  • Assists with implementation of new city hardware, software or network security initiatives.
  • Provides end user training.
  • Configures and administers mobile devices.
  • Communicates with other staff members within Department, City and other agencies in regards to any related network, hardware, or software issues.
  • Operates a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices on a regular basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer related field or three (3) years of progressive experience in computer related field. Preference may be given for relevant work experience in a government environment.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
  • Vehicle Operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
REQUIRED SKILLS (Communication/Language; Mathematical; Computer; etc.):
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft server and pc operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of server and pc hardware and software fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of database practices and principles.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office suite and Adobe suite products.
  • Quality communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer networks.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to resolve helpdesk tickets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position 50% of time. This individual will occasionally be required to move computer equipment up to 50 pounds. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, and computer equipment. This position requires employee to frequently position self to maintain computers in the lab, including under the desks and in the server closet.
