POSITION SUMMARY:

The Electrical Start Up & Comm Lead is the responsible lead for all plant electrical equipment. The Electrical Start Up & Comm Lead is the primary point of contact for all systems electrical function commissioning, checkout and start up through the operation of the equipment / plant.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the development of startup packages as required. Track and control all documentation required for proper maintenance of the startup packages.
  • Assist in the development of procedures as required to satisfy the contract and or coordinate the startup effort.
  • Assist in the advanced planning and preparation for startup activities and major milestones.
  • Understanding, knowledge and competency of basic use of electrical and instrument equipment and test equipment required for checkout, calibration and commissioning of electrical equipment or systems.
  • Understanding and competency of basic electrical equipment and instrument checkout and commissioning.
  • Verify Electrical systems installed in accordance with design.
  • Verify Electrical system loads are in accordance with design.
  • Perform field engineering changes.
  • Record as-built engineering changes on drawings.
  • Test Generator, AVR, and Synchronization equipment.
  • Perform complex relay testing.
  • Supervise electrical equipment testing.
  • In conjunction with the Construction Foreman coordinate I&C/E Technician activities.
  • Track, record and report progress on assigned systems.
  • Perform system functional testing from DCS.
  • Verify plant electrical interlock systems.
  • Record system progress and completion for plant turnover documentation.
  • Perform switching operation of High and Medium voltage switchgear.
  • Support plant operation.
  • Track and use various electrical programs for the supplied equipment (Multilin, PLCs, Relays, etc.)


Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of site commissioning and start up experience with progressive responsibility on Projects for industries such as Power Generation, Chemical Processing, Petrochemical, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of startup testing techniques in electrical disciplines is required.
  • Previous experience as a Start-up Electrical Technician or similar position is required.
  • Experience in both new project and revamp work required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Working ability with Microsoft Office required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings, technical procedures, Subcontracts and contracts.
  • Ability to write reports, prepare written correspondence concerning Project needs and issues, and to document project activities.
  • Effectively communicate with Start-up Managers, Engineers, Subcontractors, and site Start-up staff.
  • Solve practical problems based on experience and Project technical requirements.
  • Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Must be able to navigate obstacles while walking at construction sites, climb ladders and stairs, occasionally lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds, hear horns and warning alerts, and visually inspect installed work.
  • Willingness and ability to be assigned to Project Sites 100% of the time from mobilization until Project completion with potential travel to Company, Engineering, or Supplier facilities for brief periods. May be temporarily assigned to a Company office location.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Keep good balance and work at heights.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Hear well (either naturally or with correction.)
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

HOURS:

This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.

TRAVEL:

Travel required up to 100%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
