Payroll and Human Resources Manager

Job description

The Choice, Inc. is partnering with a highly regarded boutique modern and contemporary art museum to fill a temporary Payroll and Human Resources Manager position. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role supporting their Human Resources Department with managing their payroll and their human resources programs.

This role will initially be a temporary and contract opportunity through The Choice. We welcome candidates seeking temporary positions for a few months, as well as those interested in a temporary-to-hire opportunity. This is a 40 hour a week position. Hybrid (3 days onsite in Dupont Circle).

The ideal candidate would have:

  • 3+ years of payroll processing experience with ADP programs (WorkForce Now, Time and Labor Management, HRIS, Tax Compliance)
  • Knowledge of Federal and DC payroll and employment laws
  • Up-to-date with HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in multi-state and local payroll
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)/Office 365
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and handle detailed, confidential data
  • Ability to multitask in a demanding environment
  • HR experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Administer bi-weekly payroll for 200+ staff using ADP WorkForce Now, ensuring timely calculation and input of deductions, overtime, shift pay, and retro pay.
  • Implement payroll controls per ACA laws, compile payroll data (403(b) deductions, garnishments, PTO, health premiums), and produce payroll and reconciliation reports.
  • Ensure payroll and employee records are secure and confidential, responding to information requests accurately and resolving queries promptly.
  • Support recruitment and exiting processes, including job postings, offer/rejection letters, exit interviews, and equipment/IT access collection.
  • Process new hire paperwork, manage I-9 verifications and background checks, and ensure system access for new employees.
  • Coordinate open enrollment and manage health and welfare enrollment changes, including Total Rewards Program and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee ADP Workforce Now system, conduct training, update information, and act as a point of contact for queries.
  • Assist with year-end planning, benefit plan audits, and manage personnel document retention with regular audits.
  • Mentor the HR department intern and perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of HR & Administration.
