Job description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of the Controller is currently seeking a Travel Specialist. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced office processing a high volume of travel and business expense transactions. This position is responsible for reviewing and approving travel and business expense forms to ensure compliance with State of Maryland regulations, University System of Maryland policies, and University of Maryland, Baltimore policies and procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES

* Coordinate administrative activities related to the day-to-day operation of the University Travel system.

* Review travel expense reimbursement requests to ensure compliance with State of Maryland regulations, University System of Maryland policies, and University of Maryland, Baltimore policies and procedures.

* Assist in the development of practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely disbursements of funds relating to travel.

* Prepare allocation journal entries for travel related payments

* Evaluate objectives of the travel system. Perform testing to accomplish reviews and special projects regarding travel.

* Assist campus personnel with travel policy, procedure, and system inquiries.

* Provide training for campus personnel on travel processing.

* Collaborate with management and internal/external partners to support University goals and objectives. Act as the University liaison with contracted travel agencies.

* Review and reconcile monthly statements charged by the travel agency to the university.

* Assists in conceptualization, development, and drafting of written products such as website content and other information resources for the improvement of the travel program.

* Develop and facilitate travel workshops.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or business related field. Related experience may be substituted for minimum education requirement.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in financial or management disbursement accounting, auditing, assessment of internal controls, or financial analysis required to include one (1) year of travel reimbursements experience

Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Salary Range: $62,000-67,000 per year (commensurate with education and experience).
