At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a Front End Software Engineer, a typical day will include the following duties:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Front End Software Engineer will design and develop complex new software products, or make significant enhancements to existing software.The ideal candidate is a hands-on developer with significant experience in building modular, reusable components and features.They must have extensive, firsthand technical expertise in a modern front end framework. A successful candidate must be at ease working in an Agile environment with little supervision.This person should embody a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
  • 10 to 15 years of related software development experience.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Extensive experience with Angular (or another modern front end framework such as: React or Vue.js)
  • Expert knowledge of Javascript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience designing complex search interfaces.
  • Experience in optimizing web applications for performance and usability.
  • Experience with integrating with third party APIs.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Experience with Linux operating systems


DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  1. Experience with SASS or LESS.
  2. Hands-on experience working with NodeJS, MongoDB
  3. Familiarity constructing ElasticSearch queries


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Build reusable components that align with the system design patterns.
  2. Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability.
  3. Participate in team design and code reviews
  4. Collaborate with a small team of engineers and designers to understand business requirements and user experience goals.
  5. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
  6. Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
  7. Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support for software systems and application issues.
