Job description

POLITICO is seeking an exceptional college student or recent graduate for its Fall photography internship. In this role, you will serve as a hybrid photographer and photo editor. We are looking for a passionate visual storyteller interested in working on all facets of newsroom photography. A majority of your time (3-4 days/week) will be spent making photos on Capitol Hill, at federal agencies and for enterprise stories. You will also contribute to photo research projects, learn to select photos for our live blog, and build production and editing skills like drafting story layouts and post-processing work. You must be a team player who can work collaboratively across the newsroom and be eager to bring innovative ideas.

What You'll Do:

  • Photograph news stories and features in the Washington, DC area including on Capitol Hill, at federal agencies and interview subjects.
  • Contribute to photo research projects, selecting photos for live blogs, producing story layouts and doing post-processing work.


What You'll Need:

  • Keen interest in Washington and political news
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment
  • Proven experience in a newsroom
  • Proficient in digital photography equipment
  • Working knowledge of Adobe suite
  • Digital portfolio or website including at least 5-7 singles and 1 feature story
  • A resume, letter of recommendation and cover letter are also required. Please attach all supporting materials directly to your application


Internship date ranges and application deadlines:

  • Internship Dates: September 2024 - December 2024
  • Hours: 40 Per Week
  • Compensation: $23/HR
