Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join the team at St. Jospeh Medical Center working under CED, PA, a group behavioral health practice at the University of Maryland, St. Joseph Medical Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional care to patients in a 100% inpatient psychiatry setting and PHP unit. This position reports to the Medical Director.

Responsibilities:

- Obtain patient history and perform assessments using observation, interviews, and examinations.

- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests as needed.

- Provide care to adult patients, ages 18 and older.

- Provide counseling and education to patients and their families on preventative health, wellness, treatment options, and community resources.

- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary treatment team.

- Make informed, age and culture-appropriate choices, shared decision-making, and the right to self-determination.


Qualifications:

- Master's degree in nursing and graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program with specialization in area of practice.

- Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license by the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice or compact privileges under the multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.

- Allied Health credentialing through Medical Staff Services office required.

- Five years of experience in the identified area of expertise preferred.

- Prior nursing experience in the identified area, Certification in specialty area preferred.

- Knowledge of psychiatry and psychiatric drugs preferred.


Skills and Abilities:

- Broad based general medical knowledge.

- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with supervision within the scope of job required.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, seek consultation when needed, and take appropriate action.
