Job Description:

Summary:

The Internal Communications Coordinator will coordinate a variety of internal and community engagement activities within the University's Communications and Marketing (UCM) division. Primary responsibilities include supporting the AVP Community and Internal Communications with initiatives and projects that organize and deploy communications efforts across the university. Coordinate and respond to incoming requests from student media organizations, while working with university stakeholders to coordinate interviews, draft comments, and statements, as appropriate and organize student media briefings on timely topics. Provide support for university events on campus/remote, among other tasks. Coordinate campus-wide community messages with internal stakeholders, while tracking data and outcomes.

Essential Functions:

* Coordinate the production of university community messages with university stakeholders and departments. Responsible for sending internal community messages through Emma or other email communication tools. Will provide assistance with basic content publishing on the main www.american.edu website. 30% Coordinate the tracking (e.g. internal media requests, measurement (e.g. open rates/actions on community messages), and planning (e.g. timing, of announcements and content) of internal communications vehicles. 40% Ensures that emergency communications processes and protocols are implemented, while working with key stakeholders, including the UCM digital team, while monitoring social media engagement across platforms.

* Interact with AU student media to ensure for the timely response to requests for information, interviews, and coordinate with AU stakeholders.

* Work with the university Government and Community Relations team to support neighborhood and DC issues and engagements, including community relations newsletters, as appropriate.

Salary Range:

* $45,000-$55,000/year.

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

* Full-Time, 35 hours/week.

* Salaried.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

* Desired candidate has strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; is flexible and embraces working across teams.

* The ability to multi-task and meets deadlines while communicating is essential.

* Experience with content management system (CMS) and enterprise email platforms (such as Emma, Mailchimp, etc.) required.

* Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS is strongly encouraged. Must be a team-player, pro-active, and have a positive attitude.

* Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office suite andAdobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, etc.) is required.

* Working knowledge of internal communications, public affairs, and familiarity with higher education desired.
