Who We Are:

In 1837, the Ohio government established the Ohio Institution for the Education of the Blind. It was the first public school for the blind in the United States. In the early 1900s, the Ohio Institution for the Education of the Blind became known as the Ohio State School for the Blind, and the Ohio Department of Education assumed control of the school.

The Ohio State School for the Blind (OSSB) works with families and the home school district of students to determine if placement at OSSB is the best for the student based on individual needs.

What We Do:

Each year, OSSB welcomes more than 100 blind and visually impaired students to campus from school districts throughout Ohio. We use Expanded Common Core in our classrooms and offer students opportunities to learn and grow socially and emotionally in a safe environment through extracurricular activities.

Our Mission - The Ohio State School for the Blind is a collaboration of students who are blind and visually impaired, their families, staff and community members who provide an individualized road map that develops the whole student.

Our Goals - OSSB's goals focus on the following -

* Staff will assist in the development of the whole student

* Provide and access professional development

* Improve communication

* Utilize 21st-century technology

The Ohio State School for the Blind is currently seeking passionate and dedicated teachers responsible for educating students in a well-managed and creative classroom based on research-based principles and student data.

Valid Ohio licensure in Intervention Specialist, Visually Impaired (P-12)

OR

Valid Ohio licensure in Intervention Specialist, Mild/Moderate (K-12)*

* Intervention Specialist, Visually Impaired (P-12) licensure must be attained within two years of employment.

(There may be the opportunity to attend a program for the TVI license that is sponsored by a grant that would make the program low or no cost.)
