BASIC FUNCTION

Research Scientist Position in Computational Physics Research Scientist position is available in the group of Prof. Pratibha Dev in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Howard University (Washington DC, USA). The focus of the research is to study novel topological superconductors using first principles methods and the EPW code, which uses Density-Functional Perturbation Theory and Maximally Localized Wannier Functions. The appointment is initially for one year and is extendible to two additional years, based on the performance of the candidate and the availability of funds.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Mentor and advise graduate students.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

The research scientist is expected to perform research as well as mentor a graduate student on the project.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Performing research on the projects under this grant
  • Train and work closely with a graduate student
  • Present results in talks at conferences
  • Participating in grant writing, development of manuscripts and reports

CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Experience using structure-prediction methods is desirable. Personal Qualities
  • A strong background in electronic structure methods is essential.
  • Able to work independently and take responsibility for the progress of the project.
  • Diligent and self-motivated

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Successful applicants will have a PhD. in computational/theoretical condensed matter physics or related disciplines, with a proven capacity for excellent research that is reflected in a strong publication record. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in studying topological and/or superconducting materials.
