Job description

University of Maryland, School of Medicine seeks a dynamic and highly distinguished leader to serve as its founding Director of the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine. The University of Maryland School of Medicine, through cooperative funding with the Kahlert Foundation, has created the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine. This Institute will be leveraging the most advanced research and clinical care with a single goal in mind - to overcome addiction. The Kahlert Institute will seek to transform addiction research, prevention, treatment, and education across Maryland, successfully integrating a wide variety of groups across many disciplines, inside and outside the organization, to create the necessary synergy for systemic change. The Director will ideate and set in place a strategy to build and sustain the Institute, working in a collaborative manner with constituents inside and outside of the University of Maryland institution. This person will be key in identifying, attracting, and recruiting the talent that will be the building blocks of the new Institute. They will build research and clinical programs synergistically with addiction-focused programs already in existence in the University, and fill gaps to ensure that Marylanders with substance abuse issues are better supported through a scientific and clinical lens. The successful candidate who will lead and drive this important initiative will be an outstanding leader with a demonstrated ability to set a vision and effectively inspire, manage, mentor, and develop the new Institute. The new Director will be a well-known international leader in the field of addiction medicine, possess an MD, MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent degree, and academic credentials that merit appointment as Full Professor with tenure at the University of Maryland.
