Classification Specialist - Federal Human Resources Specialist

Job description

As a Classification Specialist you will work with a team of senior and mid-level classifiers to review, update, consolidate and/or reclassify an existing catalogue of position descriptions. You will develop, write, and edit updates to the text of position descriptions, including position description reviews, evaluation statements, and PD classifications and sensitivities, as needed.

Day to Day:


  • Review and analyze catalogue of position description to identify need for consolidation, updates, elimination, or reclassification.

  • Write new and edit current position descriptions including relevant technologies, current job standards, sensitivity levels, pay system, occupational series, title, and grade or band.

  • Comply with all standards per the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) directives regarding classifying General Schedule positions, and the Classifier's Handbook and Introduction to Position Classification Standards.

  • Submit updated position descriptions and position description reviews to Office of Human Resources for review, approval, and publishing to catalogue.

  • Complete and review necessary re-formatting alterations, and any other copy-editing revisions that ensures the finished position descriptions are free of any typos, grammatical issues, and conforms to the approved style.

  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on completed and classified position descriptions and PDRs.

  • Coordinate with other team members on assigned projects.

  • Provide general classification expertise to program team members and federal stakeholders.


Required Qualifications:


  • A minimum of 4 years of hands-on federal classification experience.

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Demonstrated experience with position description analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience with position classification and sensitivity levels.

  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Highly Desired Exceptional organizational and planning skills.

  • Highly Desired Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.

  • Highly Desired Previous experience managing or influencing work of other.

  • Ability to maintain or obtain Public Trust Clearance.


This position is contingent on contract award expected end of April 2024.
