Job Objectives:
Participate as part of the Special Education Department in providing assessment, feedback, insight and services to assist students with behavioral and learning issues (EL) so they may succeed in the least restricted learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience with school-based teams is required. This specialist will participate as part of the Special Education department within RCS.
  • Valid Ohio Teaching License
  • Master's Degree
  • Current certification as a Ohio Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (B.C.B.A.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate to Supervise

Note: This assignment may require a valid driver's license and access/availability of a reliable vehicle. Employees must meet all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the service center's insurance carrier.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics.   • Promotes a favorable image of the RCS Special Education Team.
  • Serves as member of the Special Education Department. Collaborate with team members and school building administrators and teaching staff.
  • Provides consultation as needed to help facilitate evidence-based behavior change assessment and intervention strategies.
  • Completes, guides and trains completion of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and connecting the results to Student Behavior Support Plans (BSP).
  • Provide ongoing review of BSP implementation.
  • Supervises and supports teaching assistants seeking certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
  • Provide ongoing Professional Development to all staff on as needed basis as well as during designated Professional Development days
  • Collaborates and provides feedback to district administrators on individualized School Plan of Support.
  • Provides task analysis of learning and behavior performance.
  • Maintains necessary documentation of student and individual performance towards School Plan of Support and student Behavior Support Plans.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the Superintendent or his/her designee

  • Ability to understand the integration of special needs students into a school setting
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use sound judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to staff and promote a team environment
  • Ability to facilitate and promote conflict resolution
  • Ability to access community resources appropriate to the needs of students.
  • Ability to work with others successfully in K-12 setting
  • Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with, students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community
  • Ability to use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions
