The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a cardiac surgery faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with a cardiothoracic transplant focus to join the Department of Surgery.

Position Overview

The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with a strong focus in cardiothoracic transplantation. Leadership opportunities may exist for the qualitifed candidate. This position will be located on the main campus of the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital.

The Ohio State Heart and Vascular Center cardiac surgery team combines highly skilled surgeons, the most advanced technology, and world-class facilities to deliver exceptional surgical heart care. We specialize in treating the most complex cardiac surgery patients with less invasive therapies, complex reoperations, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, aortic surgery, endovascular and transcatheter procedures, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and ECMO. Our faculty are leaders in the education and training of the next generation of cardiac surgeons, attracting the best and the brightest to our Cardiothoracic Fellowship Program. Our researchers focus on developing new and less invasive therapies to prevent and treat heart disease.

The Ohio State University Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute (DHLRI) employs a team approach to synergize discovery in biomedical research. DHLRI is now one of the largest heart and lung research institutes in the world, where physicians, including vascular surgeons and scientists, have access to cutting-edge technologies. Through collaborative efforts with the College of Medicine Office of Research, investigators have a wealth of resources available for research, education, and training. The Grants Management Office within the DHLRI and The Ohio State College of Medicine Office of Research facilitates some of the most advanced research practices in the world.

* Track record of clinical excellence with an interest in education and research

* Qualify for academic appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor - Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience

Faculty Defined

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
