Job description

Monsignor Slade Catholic School, a Pre-K (2) through 8th grade school located in Glen Burnie, Maryland, is seeking a full-time Resource Reading Teacher/Reading Specialist. In coordination with teachers and administration, the Resource Teacher provides in class and pull-out support for students needing academic support and enrichment. The position includes communication and record keeping, as well as serving on the Resource council support teams. The position requires knowledge and understanding of special education guidelines and strategiess.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide reading intervention and support services to students in need of additional literacy assistance.
  • Prescriptive teaching/ instructional programming
  • Interpretation of psychoeducational evaluations, IEP/504 plans, and the implications for placement and programming
  • Conduct assessments to identify students' reading levels and develop individualized intervention plans.
  • Implement evidence-based reading instruction strategies to improve students' reading skills and comprehension.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to support students' literacy development.
  • Regularly meet with parents to discuss student accommodations and progress.
  • Monitor and track students' progress in reading intervention programs and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student data, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Work with individual and small groups of students in and outside of the classroom
  • Develop and review student accommodation plans annually.


Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading Specialist certification preferred.
  • Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification or eligibility for certification as a Reading Specialist preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary school students in reading intervention, literacy support roles, and/or special education.
  • Knowledge of research-based reading intervention programs and strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
