Job description

Job Title: LPN Terrace

Department: Nursing

Location: Terrace

Reports To: Director of Nursing

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing competent resident care while promoting safety and wellbeing. Assists in planning and providing professional nursing care for residents. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and must have a genuine interest in geriatric nursing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Nursing Duties

Assign duties and tasks to nursing personnel in the Terrace such as:

C.N.A. bathing schedule

C.N.A. general upkeep with housekeeping (i.e. bed making, trash removal, laundry removal and putting away)

Vital signs and weights monthly and on as needed basis.

Maintains a safe resident environment such as:

Removing clutter

Adequate lighting within apartment

Provides direct resident care needed while promoting as much independence as possible

Bathing, dressing, eating, assist in all nursing activities in the Terrace.

Provides basic nursing treatments to the Resident on as needed basis, dressing changes, subcutaneous injections, blood glucose monitoring.

Observes reports and records Resident behavior with a high degree of sensitivity and understanding.

Leads and participates in resident therapeutic activities

Maintains, understands and reinforces residents rights

Works with a multidisciplinary team to continually monitor the condition of the resident

Works with the physician and other medical staff to assess the condition of the resident, devisee and individual healthcare plan and see that it is implemented

Assist with orientation of new personnel

Provides nursing and emergency support to the Hall residents during the absence of a Clinic Nurse

Responsible for staying on unit alternate LPN or RN coverage arrives

Operates specialized equipment as needed

Detects changes in resident's condition by physical and aural acuity

Shows tact and understanding when dealing with Residents' families and visitors

Has a sense of discipline to work in accordance with accepted nursing, medical and Knollwood standards

Demonstrate ability to instruct and supervise nursing personnel and receive Doctors' orders and Residents requests

Medication Administration

Administers medications to designated Residents as assigned

Medication administration record, MAR

Monthly summary with nurse's note

Nurses Notes

Assist in developing the individualized service plans for Terrace Residents

Ensures thorough completion of incident reports in a timely manner

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 4-7 CNAs, and indirectly supervises Private Duty Aides employed by residents. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing and maintains a current license to practice in the District of Columbia. Past experience in geriatric nursing preferred, by not essential. Familiarity with written guidelines, federal and district regulations. English Communication skills

CPR Certification

Current D.C. Licensed Practical Nurse license

CPR Certified

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
