LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

JOB SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports the mission, vision, and values of MWPH as an accountable member of the healthcare team according to the Plan for the Provision of Nursing Care and Services for the patient population served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
  • Functions under the direction of the RN
  • Will provide high quality nursing care and function within the scope of his/her licensure related to the assigned duties.
  • Function with other members of the healthcare team in promoting and maintaining health, preventing disease, and disability
  • Caring for and rehabilitating individuals who are experiencing an altered health state.
  • Contributing to the ultimate quality of life.
  • Comply with all approved hospital and nursing policies and procedures and participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Will function with a focus on customer service and patient safety.
  • The LPN with appropriate competencies may serve as escort for patient transport according to policy.
  • Assessment, planning, implementing, evaluation, activities of daily living, patient advocacy, delegation, communication according to their scope of practice.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Educational Requirements:

Graduate of an NLN approved School or Program for Practical Nursing

Licensure, Certification and Registration:

Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Maryland.

Current CPR.

Work Orientation and Experience

Prefer specific experience in Pediatrics

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and Performance
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Ability to position patient, lift 25 pounds, walk, run, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, demonstrate manual dexterity, mobility, and visual and auditory ability to do this job.

Other Requirements Specific to Assigned Area

Knowledge of growth and develop to assure data collection, treatment, care is appropriate to the developmental/chronological age of the patient

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the Unit Manager or Site Administrator. Provides care in a team relationship under the clinical direction of a Registered Nurse.

Supervision Exercised: No direct supervision. Provides guidance and direction to the Patient Care Assistant

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly interfaces daily with physicians, patients, visitors, other health care team, and health care system staff.

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED

Operates patient care equipment. Computer hardware and software.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS

Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional stress due to emergency situations or multiple demands.
