**Description**

The Clock Tower Thrift Shop is a special program of NVFS which offers affordable, unique, high-quality goods to customers at affordable pricing. Its an important part of the NVFS agency, a nonprofit serving the Northern Virginia and DMV community for nearly 100 years. The Lead Sales Associate serves as a first point of contact for retail customers and maintains the sales floor. All Thrift Shop employees are responsible for fostering an inclusive environment and striving to create a friendly and positive shopping experience for store shoppers, donors, staff, and volunteers.

**This position is ideal for a people-person with exceptional customer service skills who has some retail experience (or is willing to learn) to help our team serve the community and promote sales of store merchandise** in order to meet daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals. The Lead Associate may serve as a back-up to the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager as needed.

In accordance with President Bidens COVID-19 Action Plan, and as part of our continued efforts to maintain a safe workplace for employees and clients, NVFS is implementing a COVID-19 Vaccination or Testing Policy. As of Monday, November 1, 2021, NVFS will require all employees to be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccination or show proof of negative COVID-19 test results weekly in accordance with applicable law.

* Provide a strong level of customer service; engage customers, understand their needs, and learn of sales and donation opportunities.

* Foster team environment with other staff and volunteers.

* Assist manager with pricing of merchandise and identifying donations to be advertised on Poshmark.

* Assist with daily processing of donations that are being sorted, priced and sent to the sales floor. Ensure recycling procedures are followed for merchandise that is not sellable.

* Provide constant surveillance of the sales floor for safety and loss prevention measures.

* Maintain an adequate amount of items on the sales floor according to demand and the store layout; work in collaboration with Sales Associates to create appealing displays to promote quick sales; additionally, per Store Managers or Assistant Managers request, may be asked to provide direction to Sales Associates for setting up store displays.

* Perform opening and closing duties as needed to include count and balance, closing out the register, and securing cash drops from store register(s) to the safe according to procedure.

* Prepare daily financial activity log; perform electronic sales and other reporting as needed.

* Facilitate offsite donation pickups as assigned.

* May be asked to provide store coverage in absence of Store Managers/Assistant Managers.

* Keep manager apprised of issues which may arise during managers absence.

* Assist manager in completing the semi-annual seasonal merchandise change overs.

* Assist manager with annual inventories as assigned.

* Work on other tasks as assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.

**Qualification and Additional Requirements:** *An individual may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform essential job duties.*

* Prefer related work experience in retail sales

* Ability to use a cash register, calculator, credit card processing machine and make change accurately

* Ability to multi-task effectively with multiple conflicting priorities in a dynamic environment

* Fluency in English required; Spanish language fluency a plus. Additional language skills always welcome.

* Proficiency in use of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, internet and Microsoft Office Suite

* Commitment to organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability

* Successful completion of background checks required upon hire.

* Must have reliable transportation.

* Must be available to work holidays, evening and weekends as needed and on short notice.

* Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds of clothing and/or house wares
