Description

X-energy is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our nuclear design team. This position is responsible for implementing the requests of code users into the codebase in a clean and well-organized fashion; refactoring existing code to bring it up to modern standards; identifying and resolving code issues by debugging and analyzing code logic and performance; and improving software performance.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement new C# code to support ongoing development of the XSTERM suite of codes.
  • Revise existing code and refactor as necessary to bring it up to modern standards.
  • Optimize the code to improve its performance and reduce system requirements.
  • Identify and resolve code issues, improve robustness of the code.
  • Dive into code to provide insights as necessary to help disposition questions from the users.
  • Be cognizant of related work being performed in the international engineering community.
  • Perform all work under a quality assurance program that conforms to nuclear regulatory requirements.
  • Write and critically review technical reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Minimum Qualifications/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics from a US accredited university or equivalent years' experience.
  • 3-4 years of experience with modern C# and .NET Framework programming.
  • Able to write clean and well-maintainable code following established software development best practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio and its various development supporting tools highly recommended (routine use of debugger, profilers, code analyzers).
  • Experience with numerical analysis for engineering - numerical solution of PDE's and ODE's, numerical methods for solving algebraic systems of equations, impacts of finite-precision arithmetic, is highly recommended.
  • Experience with version control systems (preferably Gitlab) desired.
  • Experience with Windows Forms GUI programming is preferred.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous programming in C# is preferred.
  • Experience with working with large codebases and refactoring legacy codes is desirable.
  • Familiarity with high temperature gas cooled reactor technology is desirable.
  • Familiarity with codes with source term calculation capabilities, such as MELCOR, MACCS or RADTRAN is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of software development parts of nuclear regulatory quality-assurance standards ASME NQA-1, CSA N286.7, CNSC REGDOC 2.4.1 (in particular the sections related to software development and documentation) would also be beneficial.

Work Site Expectations: Onsite (Monday - Friday)

Travel Expectations: 10%

Status: Full-time, Exempt
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri
