The Opportunity

The Office of Technology and Data Science (Tech and Data) is looking for a talented Software Engineer to join the Research and Web Technology (Research Tech) team. The Research Tech team contains research programmers, web developers, data engineers and software engineers.

As a part of this team, you will use tools such as R, Python, C, C++, Fortran, SAS, STATA, and cloud computing technologies to translate public policy and proposals into platforms, algorithms and code.

The team supports research, and develops analysis, tools, data, and computing platforms in multiple programming languages leveraging cloud environments. These technologies and platforms often include work involving statistical and data analysis, data transformation, API development, microsimulation, and Amazon Web Services. The Tech and Data team works collaboratively, and the Research and Web Technology team works closely with our Data Science, and Infrastructure teams.

Our team members have solid analytical and debugging skills, knowledge of new and legacy platforms, and provide creative approaches to support researchers with high-quality and innovative solution

What You ll Do:

Maintain and modify existing code written in C++, Python and R.Develop new software and systems using Python, R and cloud computing technology according to specifications.Develop and maintain data-driven platforms using R, SAS, STATA, or Python, including tasks such as data analysis, system integration, and ensuring the scalability and reliability of the platform.Collaborate with technical and research staff to meet project goals.Translate research objectives and principles into code implementations.Effectively communicate results to research staff.Debug and resolve programming issues.Participate in code review processes.Proactively suggest improvements and innovations of methods and processes.Who You Are:

The successful candidate will have

A Bachelor s or Master s degree or an equivalent combination of professional and academic experience, with a concentration in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or related fields and 2-5 years of experience with programming (providing a code sample is required as part of the process)Experience with version control such as git and GitHubExperience with PythonSome experience with a compiled language like C/C++ or FortranExperience with databasesSome exposure to AWS cloud architectures and technologies, e.g. S3, IAM, Lambda, EC2, RDSSome exposure to containerization technologies like DockerAbility to communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical staffInterest in economic and social policyProven ability to consistently manage and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and relationshipsAbility to communicate respectfully with individuals of differing backgrounds and experienceExperience with R, Stata or SAS is a plusWhat you ll experience:

The salary range for this position is Min $65,600, Mid $86,070, Max $105,086. Salary offered is commensurate with experience and considers internal equity.
