Position Description :The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for managing and safeguarding the department's critical database systems. This position involves overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex database structures that are essential for various DoD operations. The administrator is responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of these databases, often involving sensitive and classified information. Duties include setting up database systems, monitoring and optimizing performance, implementing backup and recovery plans, and ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies and regulations. As a senior member of the team, this role also entails providing leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to junior database staff, managing database-related projects, and collaborating with other IT teams to integrate database systems with other applications and services. The Senior Database Administrator must stay current with the latest database technologies and security practices, possess strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in a high-security environment.

Requires Security Clearance : TS/SCI position. Personnel must possess a final DoD-granted TS with SCI eligibility.

Certification : CSSP or CASP

Education : High School diploma/GED

Experience :Minimum of ten years of directly related experience in database design, development, and ongoing maintenance for a variety of database servers including but not limited to, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres and Sybase.

This experience must have been performed within the last six years.

Demonstrated experience in database maintenance to ensure optimal tuning, sizing and configuration for high availability access in support of Microsoft servers, Linux servers and web application servers.Demonstrated experience in creating and sizing new databases as needed in support of IT services provided by the environment. This effort will include the documentation of each database to detail the database specifications, schema, table sizing and any special data validation requirements.Demonstrated experience in the configuration, scheduling and maintenance of backups of all database instances. This effort will include documentation of all backup procedures, instructions for restoration of data and periodic disaster recovery planning and testing.Demonstrated experience in working with application owners (both client/server and web applications) to ensure application requirements are met in support of 1900-suported applications.
