The Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, MD has an immediate opening for a Registered Nurse with School health and/or recent inpatient pediatric experience, an understanding of routine school health guidelines, proficiency in pediatric assessments and health care planning for students, staff education, safety precautions, medication administration, EMR and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in an educational setting. EOEThe school serves students in preschool through 8th grade with language and learning disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairments that affect their learning.Duties and Responsibilities for the nurse include:Visit school every 45 daysDocument all interactions in the EMRDelegate medication administration tasks to CMTsBe available by phone for health consultsRequired skills and experience for the school nurse are as follows:Active MD RN licenseA minimum of two years experience working with the pediatric population, experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and some school nursing preferredAble to work independently, have initiative and have flexibility for changes and emergency situations in the school, etc., be organized, a multi-tasker and collaborativeAbility to read, write, and speak English both orally and in writingKnowledge of medication management methods, procedures, and techniquesInterpersonal skills sufficient to maintain a calm, supportive, and firm approach with learning disabled students and strong analytical skillsAbility to use professional judgement and assume the risk in working with students/children with behavioral challengesAs a condition of employment, all new hires are required to have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New hires must receive any additional vaccine doses in the appropriate timeframes to be considered fully vaccinated and submit weekly test results until they are fully vaccinated.
