Youth Engagement Stewards
Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
Stewards is excited to partner with Andersonville National Historic Site to host a Youth Engagement Steward (member). The Youth Engagement Steward will support the Interpretation Division. The mission of the division of Interpretation is to engage the public in a manner that encourages stewardship of our nation's natural and cultural resources. This is done through public talks and tours, special events, Junior Ranger activities, and curriculum-based education programs.
The member will engage the public by developing and presenting interpretive and educational programs, both on-site and virtual, as well as all of the park's special events such as Wreaths Across America, Memorial Day decoration of the cemetery, and the park's living history events. The member will also assist in coordinating youth outreach programs throughout the year, including the park's summer youth program, Junior Ranger Days. In addition, the intern will help develop a site bulletin focused on the African American history of Andersonville.
The member will have the opportunity to work with facilities and natural resources departments to maintain and improve the cultural landscape of Andersonville National Cemetery. The member will be exposed to multiple work divisions and fields of study, learning about many of the career tracks within the National Park Service and the federal government in general, and will work with an enthusiastic team who are always eager to share their knowledge and experience. There will be no shortage of mentors on site.
