Position Description

Do you have experience with static code analysis tools and modern CI/CD pipelines? We re looking for a Lead Application Security Engineer to help our client build their Application Security program. This new and exciting role will allow you to lead the design and implementation effort before pivoting to operations and continuous advancement.

The Lead Application Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and operating our client s SAST product, with a SaaS tool being the foundation for the product. The successful candidate will have prior experience operating SAST tools, with preference given for Veracode SaaS experience. This role involves owning the design and leading the engineering of the product. That requires excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills. Our client s environment is fast-paced. Regular video conferencing, email, and chat are required during core business hours. The AppSec program is in its infancy and will be rolled out enterprise-wide. Integration needs to take place with 60+ FISMA systems of varying sizes.

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of IT experience:
    • SAST and SCA (Software Composition Experience) tool experience
    • Developing design documentation
    • Software development and code interpretation
    • Supporting code scanning as part of software delivery lifecycles, including modern CI/CD pipelines
    • Troubleshooting code-related issues
    • Triages vulnerabilities in code if a customer team is stuck
    • Identify ways to remediate the code and recommend those to the customer
    • Training SAST tool users on correct usage of the tool
    • Knowledge and experience with software provenance and code signing
    • The use of quality gates
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related scientific or technical field, or at least 8 years of IT experience and no degree requirement
  • 2+ years of AWS experience. The successful candidate will have experience working with Amazon Web Services, either deploying or accessing AWS services and applications that run in AWS. This experience must have included significant AWS API automation.
  • 2+ years of Jenkins (or similar CI/CD) experience: Advanced-level Jenkins experience (building/maintaining pipelines). Solid understanding of CI/CD processes, with proven experience building and automating jobs.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of our client s Application Security program, including tool deployment and configuration
  • Development of all Application Security program-related documentation, including diagrams and documents
  • CONOPS development
  • Developing roadshow slide decks
  • Developing compliance documentation for the system along with the PO
  • Technical liaison between the product team and the consumers
  • Presentations to technical customer teams and our client s leadership
  • Integration of SAST tooling into customer deployment pipelines
  • Troubleshooting of SAST tool-related issues
  • Troubleshooting code-related issues and recommending solutions in code for our client

The salary range for this position is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. It has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, market rate, and internal equity. The salary for this role is expected to be in the $131,500 - $151,500 range. Where a candidate falls within the band can be determined based on one or more of the following: skillset, experience level, achievements, education, geographic location, security clearance, involvement in corporate tasks, and other non-discriminatory factors. In addition to the base salary, this role will include benefits as described above. Valiant reserves the right to adjust the salary range, experience requirements, and position responsibilities at any time without prior notice.
