Job description

Unit ER - Level IV Trauma Center (Cost Code 51) Fast track No Fast Track # beds/trauma bays 18-Beds ER with the capacity to go up to 21-Beds, should hall beds be utilized # Psych/seclusion rooms Room 5 is their 'safe' room # patients per day They have been slow since COVID. Currently seeing approximately 60 patients /day (Pre- COVID was 90 patients/day) Certs BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, & NIHSS are Required & NIHSS (working on becoming a stroke ready hospital) Ratios 1:3-4 EMR EPIC - Previous EPIC experience is required for travelers Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Charge Nurse 24/7 - Charge Nurse covers Triage approximately 6 hours/day Nurse Aides/Paramedics "Floor Tech: 7 pm - 3 am Monday - Friday; 3pm - 3am Sat/Sun Transporter: 11 am - 7 pm 5 days/week. Also responsible for ordering & stocking supplies" Security/Patient sitters There is a security guard in the waiting room or ER 24/7 Weekend Requirement The weekend requirement is dependent on the shift & the number of weekend alternative staff. Usually 4 weekend shifts per 4 week schedule. Can be either Sat/Sun are considered weekend shifts for both Days or Nights Holidays They have a holiday rotation, based on Major (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day) & Minor (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) holidays. They would require travelers to work into the holiday rotation with the perm staff. Scrub Color Navy Blue - Traveler must provide their own scrubs - Must be neat & clean. Jackets are allowed, but no sweat jackets/hoodies. Jackets can be navy, grey, or black. Hair must be natural hair color - no pink/purple/blue. Excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered. Tele/Monitor Techs "Phillips cardiac monitors. RN's are expected to read, monitor, & treat dysrhythmias. They have a monitor tech 24/7. They also help answer the phones." Vents They get Vents, Cpap, Bipap, & High Flow - Managed by RT ED Physicians/Mid-Levels ED provider in the department 24/7 & a midlevel (NP or PA) from 11 am - 11 pm Lab Draws RN's draw their own unless they are a difficult stick can call phlebotomy IV Team No IV Team - ED RN's are utilized on the floor for difficult IV Sticks. Must have strong IV skills RT 24/7 RT is in-house 24/7 Pharmacy 24/7 Pharmacy is not 24/7. RN's are responsible for mixing drips after pharmacy hours. They can call the pharmacist at Berkeley with questions. They also a pharmacist on call at Jefferson they can call or will come in if needed. Shifts "12 hour shifts - Start Times: 7am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 7pm They do not rotate between day & nights. Although not guaranteed, self-scheduling & block scheduling are allowed if the needs of the unit are met. Schedules are not guaranteed until the manager finalizes it." Floating No floating Floor specific orientation The first 12 hour orientation shift they will meet with security, get their ID badge, meet with the educator, train on Pyxis, Accudose, & equipment. The second 12 hour orientation shift is all orientation: 1-2 hours of EPIC, then the rest on the floor. Third shift will be on their own. Common diagnosis / Types of patients Typical ER patients: CHF, COPD, DM, 10% peds, COVID is slowing down, high incidence of heroin OD. Have behavioral health in there during the day. Non-smoking on campus at all. Initiate & titrate all drips except Chemo.
