Job Summary

The Career Coach is responsible for providing career counseling to middle and high school students, coordination of career exploration resources, work with partners on developing career exploration activities and administering these activities in the middle and high schools. The Career Coach will also work with students individually and in groups to assist them in determining their career pathway and matching post-CCR pathway. The Career Coach tracks and reports student progress through data management systems.

Key Functions/Responsibilities

  • Administer various career interest and aptitude assessments to determine occupational interests and career paths.
  • Provide career coaching services to Youth clients while developing their individual career plan.
  • Conduct virtual and in-person sessions for students, families, and partner staff to provide an overview of available services, facilitate workshops, teach job readiness skills and other group presentations.
  • Work with AACPS staff to coordinate the activities including guest speakers, field trips to business sites, job showings, after school events, etc.
  • Partner with teachers and administrators to integrate career counseling in existing classes including business visits and guest speakers.
  • Collaborate with other agencies, nonprofits, and community partners to develop programming that assists students.
  • Conduct job readiness activities and training.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to organize and support job readiness activities including, but not limited to mock interviewing, career fairs, job shadowing, essential soft skills training, and work experiences.
  • Collaborate with external and internal partners to implement summer career exploration activities.
  • Participate in development of career resources to be used by students.
  • Assist students in the usage of self-service resources.
  • Assist students with identifying work experience and internship opportunities, including apprenticeships.
  • Attending conferences, staff meetings, and AAWDC functions, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Two or more years working with youth in education, workforce, case management, human services, or social services.
  • Proficiency in Spanish (Preferred).
  • Experience working in K- 12 school system (Preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and experience in compliance with organizational policies, established procedures, regulatory requirements, and federal and state laws.
  • Knowledge of career counseling theories and techniques, including the impact of cultural values and unique needs of a diverse population, must be demonstrable.
  • Experience in preparing and conducting client workshops.
  • Excellent organizational skills include the ability to prioritize work and manage deadlines successfully.
  • Commitment to outstanding service delivery, teamwork and client outcomes must be verifiable through references.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, to include Excel and Word.
Work Environment:
  • General office environment.
  • General Hours for this position are aligned with the hours of the school(s) assigned.
  • Monday - Friday with flexibility to fulfill 35 hours per week.
  • Position may require evening and weekend hours as determined by departmental needs.
  • Position may require local travel within Anne Arundel County.
Physical Demands:
  • This position requires movement about the inside the office to access files, office machinery etc.
  • This position requires the ability to move (with assistance) tables weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires the ability to move chairs up to 15 pounds without assistance.
