POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing evening instruction within all facets of premises cabling and fiber optic technology; utilizes pre-defined curriculum to prepare students for associated certifications; establishes the classroom and laboratory settings along with inventory management. All Broadband Infrastructure Instructors are required to complete 40-60 hours of The Fiber Optic Association (FOA) training (paid).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Work with ACE staff to identify and recruit potential students for program enrollment;
  • Implement, assess, revise lesson plans as needed;
  • Manage material inventory for classroom and lab;
  • Supplement laboratory activities for hands-on experiences;
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in required databases;
  • Remain up-to-date on technologies in the field;
  • Seek to create a learning environment that is successful to helping students reach their personal and professional goals;
  • Identify student needs, cooperate with school staff to help students overcome barriers;
  • Evaluate student progress and provide customized supports as needed;
  • Participate in the learning and certification process to become a certified instructor through the Fiber Optics Association;
  • Lead curriculum planning and development and the selection and utilization of instructional materials;
  • Develop and facilitate program orientation;
  • Prepare lesson plans and instruct students in the use of technology that is supportive of the program/course goals and objectives;
  • Employ appropriate procedures in establishing a proper classroom environment;
  • Lead student retention efforts;
  • Monitor, collect, evaluate, and report student performance and progress toward program/course goals and objectives;
  • Collaborate with department staff, business/industry, and community/agencies in efforts that help meet program goals;
  • Collaborate with ACE staff who support program operations;
  • Collect and report program data per program requirements;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or in a related field, or five years related industry experience.
  • Ability to obtain an Ohio Department of Education-Adult Education Permit.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a variety of settings.
  • Available to work year-round during times when adults need services including evenings.
  • Experience in working with school staff and agency personnel to meet the learning needs of adults.
  • Expert interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
  • Successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.

Broadband experience is ideal but not required. An aptitude for mechanical and technical content can likely transfer through self-study from fields such as electrician, power line workers, networking, electrical engineering technologist, or electro-mechanical engineering technologist. Other technical fields may also prove to be a good fit.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Tools/Equipment Use: Standard office equipment, including Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk adjustable chair

Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and using a mouse, occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds)

Environment: Works in district office, justice center, or other community-based setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours

Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position

Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.

Selected individuals will be provided the opportunity to acquire the Certified Premises Cabling Technician and Certified Fiber Optics Technician credentials from Fiber Optic Association at no cost as they are a requirement for instructing broadband coursework. Estimated time to take the certification training is 60 hours.

Hourly pay rate is approximately $38.00.
