Position Summary and Duties

The laboratory technician performs tasks associated with laboratory preparation (e.g., ordering supplies, preparing reagents, checking equipment, organizing supplies, setting up and breaking down labs, scheduling field trips) correctly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains inventories of biological materials (mammalian cell cultures, DNA, bacteria and reagents) for research and instructional labs. Trains faculty, staff, and students on proper waste management procedures and safety protocols and enforces EPA regulations. Maintains, calibrates and cleans regular lab equipment. Assigns appropriate lab preparations to student workers based student availability and expertise.

Required Qualifications

Vocational or technical degree in biology or a relevant field
1-3 years of work-related experience
Experience in an academic laboratory setting and proficiency in lab techniques
Experience handling chemicals and biological materials
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy lab setting
Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology or a relevant field
