About the Role

The Executive Director of External Relations and Marketing at the Walsh School of Foreign Service is a key leadership role responsible for planning and directing a strategic communications and external relations program. This includes overseeing the School's communications and events team, as well as the external relations staff and outreach activities. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership on all matters related to communications and external relations, ensure consistency and efficiency in stakeholder engagement, and develop and implement marketing campaigns to enhance the School's image and increase applications to undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, the role involves strengthening outreach to the alumni community, promoting faculty research, and engaging with University officials on communication, marketing, and event planning matters.Candidates for this position should have a Master's degree in a relevant field and at least 10 years' of experience in communications and/or external relations, preferably in higher education, government, or policy-related institutions. Supervisory experience, exceptional writing and presentation skills, and the ability to maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders are essential. A high level of organizational competence, effective time management, and a broad understanding of communications and external relations strategies are also required. Knowledge of the Washington, DC institutional landscape is a preferred qualification. The Executive Director will be a member of the School's senior leadership team, participating in critical decisions and advising the Dean on matters related to the School's role in the broader policy dialogue.
