At Cooper Carry, the Sustainability Analyst focuses on the execution of data-driven sustainable design practices, assistance in pursuance of Green Building-Rating Certifications, and building performance analyses under the direction of the Project Architect, Project Manager or Principal, as appropriate. The Sustainability Analyst is expected to integrate information and prepare coordinated documents under the direction of the architecture team and Sustainability Lead. This role requires the ability to work independently and multi-task among projects while elevating the standard of building performance and wellness integration across all studios.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of a NAAB accredited architectural program with a bachelor's level degree, or an undergraduate degree from an environmental or sustainable design/high-performance building design program
  • Credentials for LEED Green Associate, Fitwel Ambassador, and/or WELL AP
  • 2-4 years professional experience in building performance analysis, with practical experience assisting in pursuance of LEED certification at least two (2) LEED projects, and at least one (1) Fitwel or WELL project.

    • Specific experience with the LEED Multifamily Midrise and/or National Green Building Standard (NGBS) rating systems targeted.

  • Mid-level proficiency in building performance simulation programs such as FenestraPro or Insight equivalent
  • Proficiency with energy modeling principles and water balance analysis
  • Experience with local municipal Green Building Incentive Policies in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, New York, Charlotte, and Atlanta
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complicated sustainability concepts to terms digestible by members of the design team, clients and building users
  • Basic technical skills: Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel. Ability to quickly learn required software programs including Revit, Sketchup, and Adobe CS.
  • Strong understanding of integrated building systems
  • Strong sustainable design communication and documentation skills.


Preferred:

  • LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C, ID+C, or ND)
  • Experience with whole building Life Cycle Assessment (wbLCA) and embodied carbon calculations using EC3 and software including Tally LCA or equivalent.
  • The International Living Future Institute Living Future Accreditation (ILFI LFA) professional and experience on Living Building Challenge project certification.
  • Knowledge of Regenerative Design strategies


Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Effectively discuss sustainable practices with Clients, Contractors, Consultants and internal staff
  • Support pursuance of Green Building LEED Project Administrator
  • Advise and support project teams and participate in educational and operational instruction and awareness
  • Effectively communicate LEED requirements to project teams and/or consultants including Commissioning Agents, Energy Modelers and Engineering Consultants
  • Support project teams through the certification management of rating systems like LEED, Fitwel and WELL, assisting with early target-setting and documenting technical support
  • Ensure project graphic, written and analytical documentation is clear, complete, and concise
  • Support project teams during early design phases in implementing baseline building performance targets
  • Assist Project Architect in exploring sustainable design alternatives
  • Research sustainable building materials and systems as required
  • Inform Project Manager or Principal of potential project opportunities and proactively address issues
  • Inform the Firm's sustainable design practice and resources
  • Stay informed of the practicality of sustainable implementation into built works; work to achieve Client's goals within the constraints of the budget
  • Assist the Firm with annual reporting/analyzing of the AIA's 2030 Commitment requirements
  • Assist the Firm with Architecture 2030's The 2030 Challenge and other sustainability endeavors
  • Assist with internal initiatives regarding sustainability and wellness across the practice

  • The position will be full-time in an office with minor travel requirements throughout the year

Interview Requirements

Selected candidates will be required to prepare a 30m presentation about themselves and project examples showcasing their experience navigating sustainable building design. While in-person presentations are preferred, virtual accommodations can be made.
