Job description

The Client Accounting Controller position is responsible for managing the ongoing financial reporting operations of the firm on behalf of each CAAS client. This includes the review of periodic financial reports prepared by the Accounting Manager, preparation of budget, KPI and other management reports, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the client's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Client Accounting Controller also serves as the primary liaison between the client and the clients' tax preparer and other professional service providers.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining relationships with clients to ensure engagement information and requests are received and addressed timely with clients.
  • Internal Management Summary, Analysis, or Monthly Reporting preparation required by engagements.
  • Preparation of complex and industry specific key performance indicators, critical success factors, and other management analysis required.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting projects
  • Review of workpapers and reporting packages prepared by Accounting Managers
  • Management of ongoing transactional accounting to ensure items are processed and necessary information is received by clients to prevent delays in monthly services.
  • Staff and technology resource planning/management
  • File state & federal tax exemptions on behalf of clients.
  • Audit and Tax Preparation
  • Prepare and review Board Reporting Packages
  • Assist with internal controls in smaller Non-profit organizations.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Possess an understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems, industry specialization a plus
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity.
  • General knowledge and understanding of full-cycle accounting processes and payroll and related taxes.
  • Essential and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 5-7 years of experience in Non-Profit private/public accounting. Some experience working with clients with annual revenues up to $50 million or more preferred.
  • Relevant professional certification(s) preferred.
  • Solicitation registration process experience
  • Possess an understanding of accounting principles and concepts as well as Fund Accounting, cash flow reporting, and Federal award knowledge.
  • Experience with Grant agreements and contracts
  • Donor Database Experience preferred.
  • Ability to build productive cross-functional, collaborative working relationships and team player.
  • Experience working in a paperless environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Understanding of basic business skills and standard office technology
  • General and growing knowledge of firm products and services in the practice area, and a general knowledge of products and services in other practice areas (tax and assurance)


Working Conditions:

Regular office hours are generally 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekends are required periodically to meet the responsibilities of this role.
